稼働中の原発を攻撃、制圧するなど、侵攻を続けるロシアに対し、ウクライナでは抵抗が続いている。攻撃を受ける首都キエフから避難せずに生活する日本人男性が産経新聞の取材に応じ、「２０年住んだキエフの友とともにありたい」と覚悟を語った。懸命に自国を守り抜こうとする〝第二の故郷〟に、日本を含む国際社会の支援を訴えている。（田中幸美）
「爆音が聞こえ、破壊されている所はあるが、街や市民の規律は乱れていない。自宅はインフラも保たれている」。４日、会員制交流サイト（ＳＮＳ）の音声通話でキエフ在住の中村仁(ひとし)さん（５４）は現状をこう説明した。
自宅は軍事施設などがある地域ではなく、郊外の集合住宅。だが数日前から爆発音はより近くで頻繁に耳にするようになった。警報が鳴ると地下にあるシェルターに避難し、夜間は電灯を消す。夜間外出禁止令も継続中で、一度だけ誤って外に出た際は、武装した兵士から詰問された。

ウクライナに住み始めて今年で２０年。大学時代、パワーリフティングの選手として２３歳以下の世界大会で入賞した際、ウクライナのことを知った。温和で友好的な人々と美しい自然に魅了され、留学。現在は日本語や日本文化を伝えるセンターの職員として勤務する。

かつて旧ソ連の一翼を担い、１９９１年に独立後はロシアと西側諸国とのはざまに置かれ、２００４年のオレンジ革命や１４年のクリミア併合などで犠牲者を出しながらも、国を発展させてきたウクライナ。地理的・歴史的にロシアと深い関わりがあり、「ウクライナ人も、軍事攻撃を続けるロシア政府とロシアの国民は別と考えており、ロシア人に対しての悪意や憎しみは持っていない」という印象だという。
幹線道路は現在もキエフを脱出しようとする人の車で大渋滞し、在ウクライナ日本大使館からは退避を促す連絡が頻繁にくる。だが「忍耐強いウクライナ人は、今回の困難もきっと乗り越えられるはず」と信じ、自身もキエフにとどまると決めている。
「キエフに残っている人も含め、多くの国民はこの戦争の終結を待っている」。世界からウクライナへの支援や連帯の表明は、現地にも届き大きな支えになっていると確信し、さらなる後押しを願っている。
